1. Quick Reference Table
| Problem | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Speaker won't turn on | Battery discharged | Charge via the Type-C port and long-press the Power button |
| Won't pair over Bluetooth | Not in Bluetooth mode, or pairing memory cleared | Short-press the Bluetooth button; if memory was cleared, ignore/forget "Dash 4" on your phone and re-search |
| Wireless mic not connecting | Mic powered off, or not in Wireless Mic mode | Short-press the Bluetooth button to enter Wireless Mic mode; long-press the mic's Power button |
| Second microphone won't pair | Add-on mic not compatible with batch, or pairing steps skipped | Confirm the additional mic is compatible with your unit's batch number with support; follow the same pairing steps as mic 1 |
| Speaker turned off by itself | Intelligent power-saving auto-off | Normal behavior after 10 minutes idle in Bluetooth pairing wait, or paused in USB/FM/AUX mode — long-press Power to turn back on |
| No FM reception | Lights interfering, or channel not scanned/saved | Turn off the lights for better reception; long-press Next Track to scan and save channels |
| USB drive won't play | Unsupported format or size, or wrong mode | Confirm the drive is ≤32GB and files are MP3/WAV/WMA/FLAC/APE; short-press Mode to select USB |
| Vocal suppression/backing track not working | Mic not paired | This feature only works when the speaker is paired with the included wireless microphone |
2. Speaker Won't Turn On
- Long-press the Power button — check for the battery indicator lighting up.
- Connect the included cable to the Type-C Charging Port and charge for at least 30–60 minutes.
- While charging, the battery indicators should light up one at a time; if there's no indicator activity at all, try a different cable or a 5V/2A adaptor.
- If it still won't turn on after charging, this may point to a hardware fault — contact support.
3. Won't Pair Over Bluetooth
- Short-press the Bluetooth button to enter Bluetooth mode — the speaker prompts "Bluetooth" and the indicator flashes blue.
- On your phone, search for Bluetooth devices and select "Dash 4."
- If it doesn't appear or won't reconnect, the pairing memory may have been cleared (short-press the Bluetooth button twice to do this deliberately) — in that case, ignore/forget "Dash 4" on your phone and search again to re-pair from scratch.
- To disconnect a current connection and let another device pair, long-press the Bluetooth button.
4. Wireless Microphone Won't Connect
- Short-press the Bluetooth button on the speaker to enter Wireless Mic mode — its indicator flashes green.
- Long-press the microphone's Power button — its indicator should flash white, then turn solid white once connected, alongside the speaker's indicator turning solid green and a "ding" prompt.
- If it doesn't connect, power-cycle the microphone and repeat the steps.
- Make sure the Mic Connect function hasn't been switched off — short-press the Mic Connect button on the speaker to toggle it back on if needed.
5. Pairing a Second (or Add-On) Microphone
- Follow the same pairing steps as the first microphone — short-press to pair the second unit.
- Dash 4 supports up to 2 wireless microphones connected simultaneously.
- If you've purchased a separate/additional wireless microphone as an add-on (pricing is around ₹1,000, depending on batch number), check with Portronics support first to confirm it's compatible with your specific unit's batch before attempting to pair it.
- If a compatible add-on mic still won't pair, power-cycle both the speaker and the microphone, then repeat the pairing steps from scratch.
6. Speaker Powers Off Unexpectedly
This is the intelligent power-saving function, not a fault:
- In Bluetooth mode, the speaker auto-powers off after 10 minutes of waiting to pair.
- In USB, FM, or AUX In mode, it auto-powers off after 10 minutes of playback being paused.
Long-press the Power button to turn it back on.
7. FM Radio Issues
- Short-press the Mode button until the speaker prompts "FM mode."
- Long-press the Next Track button to scan and automatically save available channels.
- Use the previous/next track buttons to switch between saved channels.
- For better reception, turn off the speaker's lights by long-pressing the Light button — the manual notes this can improve FM reception.
8. USB / AUX Playback Issues
USB:
- Confirm the flash drive is 32GB or smaller and contains MP3, WAV, WMA, APE, or FLAC files.
- Short-press the Mode button to select USB mode — the speaker should prompt "USB Mode."
AUX:
- Connect a 3.5mm cable between your audio source and the AUX-In port.
- Short-press the Mode button to select AUX In mode — the speaker should prompt "Auxiliary in."
- Check the volume on the source device, since AUX is a passive connection.
9. Vocal Suppression / Backing Track Mode Not Working
This feature (suppressing or restoring vocals in a song) only works while the speaker is actively paired with the included wireless microphone — it won't do anything in plain Bluetooth playback without the mic connected. Pair the microphone first, then short-press the Vocal button.
10. Headphone Mode Issues
- Power on the microphone and connect it to your device via Bluetooth first.
- Insert 3.5mm headphones into the Headphone Port.
- Remember that in this mode, audio plays through the headphones instead of the speaker — this is expected, not a fault.
11. Charging & Battery Issues
- Charge using a good-quality 5V/2A adaptor — an underpowered adaptor can charge slowly or not at all.
- Charge the speaker to full capacity before first use, and avoid excessive prolonged charging, which can shorten battery lifetime.
- If unused for a long period, charge the speaker at least once a month to prevent the lithium battery from degrading.
- When the battery is low, the indicator flashes and a voice prompt says "battery low" — this is your cue to charge soon, not a fault.
12. General Safety Reminders
- Do not use the speaker in extreme cold or hot environments.
- Avoid dropping or hitting the speaker.
- Keep the volume at a reasonable level to avoid disturbing others.
