Portronics Beem 520 — Troubleshooting Guide

Modified on Sat, 25 Jul at 11:57 AM

Running into an issue with your Portronics Beem 520 ? Don't worry — most of the common ones below can be sorted out in just a couple of steps. If you're still stuck after trying these, our support team is always happy to help.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Blurry Image

Here's how to get your picture sharp again:

  • Rotate the focusing ring until the image comes into focus.
  • Still not clear? Try moving the projector a little closer to or farther from your screen — this often does the trick.

No Power

Let's get you back up and running:

  • Check that the power cable is securely plugged in at both ends.
  • Confirm the wall outlet you're using is working (try plugging in another device to test it).
  • Check that the power switch on the unit itself is switched on.

Distorted / Trapezoidal Image

If your image looks skewed or shaped like a trapezoid rather than a rectangle:

  • Try the auto keystone correction feature, or adjust it manually via Settings → Picture Correction.
  • Make sure your projector is placed level and centered with your screen — even a slight tilt can distort the image.

Wi-Fi Won't Connect

  • Double-check you're entering the correct password.
  • Try moving the projector a bit closer to your router.
  • Restart your router and attempt to connect again.

No Sound

  • Make sure the volume isn't muted — just press the Mute button again to unmute.
  • Increase the volume using the Volume + button on your remote.
  • Using external speakers via the 3.5mm output? Double-check they're properly connected.

USB Drive Not Detected

  • Try a different USB port on the projector, or test with a different USB drive.
  • Make sure your drive is formatted in a compatible file system — FAT32 usually works best.
  • Confirm you've selected USB as the signal source using your remote.

Screen Mirroring Not Working

  • Make sure your phone and the projector are connected to the same Wi-Fi network (where required).
  • Using an iPhone? Confirm AirPlay is turned on.
  • Using Android? Make sure Airscreen (or your phone's built-in mirroring feature) is installed, enabled, and has the right permissions granted.

Overheating / Auto Shutoff

This usually happens when the projector isn't getting enough airflow. Here's how to fix it:

  • Make sure the vents aren't blocked, and that there's at least 2 feet of clearance between the projector and the wall behind it.
  • Place the projector in a well-ventilated, open area rather than an enclosed space like a cabinet or shelf with walls close by.
  • Clean the vents if it's been a while since the last clean — dust buildup restricts airflow over time.
  • Give the unit time to cool down fully before turning it back on.

Dust Appearing on the Projected Screen

You might occasionally notice small dust spots on your projected image, even if you've cleaned the unit recently. This can happen because the Beem 520 isn't a fully sealed projector, so a small amount of dust can find its way in over time — this is a known characteristic of this design, not a sign that something's wrong with your unit.

If you notice this:

  • Please raise a support ticket with us. Our support team will take a look and guide you through the next steps.

Spots Appearing on the Screen

Spots on the projected image can happen due to overheating from extended or continuous use. If you notice this:

  • Please raise a support ticket so our team can check it and assist you further.
  • In the meantime, try keeping the projector in a well-ventilated area and giving it breaks during long usage sessions — this helps prevent the issue from recurring.

Portronics Logo Stuck on Startup

If your projector gets stuck on the Portronics logo screen and doesn't move past it, a factory reset usually resolves this. Here's how:

  1. Turn ON the projector and make sure the red power light is visible.
  2. Take the projector remote and point it towards the projector.
  3. Press the Minus (–) button once.
  4. Then press the Up (▲) button once.
  5. Repeat this sequence (Minus → Up) three times continuously.
  6. After completing the sequence, wait for the LED light on the back of the projector to appear or blink.
  7. Once you see the LED indication, please wait and avoid pressing any buttons.
  8. The projector will automatically start the reset process and should be ready to use within a few minutes.

Once the reset is complete, check that your projector is working normally. If it's still stuck on the logo screen afterward, please raise a support ticket and our team will help from there.
